Default 01 KJ Xi ECU to 02 KJ SII EI ?

Hi all...my son's 02 KJ SII EI has been erratically flashing the engine fault and traction control lights last 2 mths or so. He booked it into Mitsi's service centre today, and it seems his heater core has been leaking onto the ECU They're quoteing him (roughly) $3.5k to fix it all.

Here's the thing...the car before this one was a 01 KJ Xi (both 3.5 auto sedans), but his GF wrote it off. Before sending it to the scrap yard, I salvaged heaps off it, including the ECU, so I'm wondering/praying that 01 Xi ECU can be put in his 02 SII EI

    Straight swap???

    TYI

The ECU hardware is the same however the following issues prevent a direct swap without reflashing:
    - immobiliser
    - 4 speed vs 5 speed (not an issue if both the same)
    - TCL vs non-TCL (not an issue if both the same)
    - tiptronic vs non-tiptronic (not an issue if both the same)
With access to reflashing capability, all can be resolved.

PS: this thread probably shouldn't be in the AWD section...

    This did cross my mind

    - 4 speed vs 5 speed (not an issue if both the same)

Will ask him what they both were/are

    - TCL vs non-TCL (not an issue if both the same)

TCL? Have dug out the one from his 01 Xi, it has "DOM TCL 3.1L written on it I'm assuming TCL is a more moden thing, so if I'm rite, his 02 Ei would have it to?

    - tiptronic vs non-tiptronic (not an issue if both the same)

    Both are/were triptronic

With access to reflashing capability, all can be resolved.

So with reflashing capabilities, item/features could be turned on/off? Possibly the immobiler could be matched to the car he has now?

Apologies, all I couldn't see a TJ section - unless it's under "Other"? Only...380 DB Series I - Series III, AWD Magna / Verada, Third Generation Magna TE - TW, Second Generation Magna TR - TS, First Generation Magna TM - TP, Other (Large Passenger)

I'm not sure when TCL became standard on Veradas but I'd think it likely the 02 would have it.

Changing from 4 speed to 5 speed or vice versa requires reflashing an appropriate ROM. The 5 speed FWD cars all had TCL & Tiptronic; these features can be enabled or disabled in 4 speed ROMs as required.

If the water damaged ECU is alive enough to be read, the immobiliser coding can be copied to the replacement ECU, otherwise the replacement ECU would need to have the immobiliser disabled.
